Aren't we glad we are in living in Malaysia? A country protected from natural disasters coming from South China Sea or the Indian Ocean (apart from typhoon/flood) ...though we do feel some mild earthquake tremors whenever our neighbouring country has been strucked with a powerful one.
On September 30th, 2009, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck off the city of Padang off the coast of southern Sumatra at about 6.17pm on Wednesday. Tremors were felt along the west coast of Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor where people rushed out of several high-rise buildings fearing for their safety. No casualties, no damage. We are safe.
In Padang, many people were killed, injuries are mounting, houses destroyed, families with children were left stranded with no place to call home...a resemblance of the tragedy that strucked Bandar Aceh (with an exception of the tsunami) in 2004. Another sad day for our beloved neighbours.
Hospital Penawar, a reputable hospital in Johor will be conducting a mission trip to Padang. As such, AA Foundation would like to assist the people of Padang through support and contribution on daily necessities (no no we are not sending anyone to Padang!).
